Antorcha (1970-76)

After the split of Las Antorchas Victor Motta Aviles and band mate Omar Cortes Gaviño teamed up with Victor's brother Guillermo and continued as Antorcha. They played a sort of Acid-Rock but developed a style of their own. Actually not my kind of music but I like their anarchistic attitude and they receive extra points for the demented sound on few of their tracks. After a handful of E.P.'s they finally released an album in 1976. Shortly after they called it quits and 30 years later VAM Records (VAM 001-CD / 2006) put out a CD with all the tracks from their 45's plus "Mira" from their cassette-only release from 1976.

Truck - Surprise, Surprise (1974)

This is actually the October Cherries from Singapore but after the departure of guitarist Peter Diaz they renamed themselves as Truck for only one record. "Surprise, Surprise" is a pretty good pop album with slightly psychedelic vibes, best compared to The Beatles "White Album" era. "One Fine Day", "Broken Chair", "This Is Our Love Song", "Dreamseller" and "Lay Down Your Love" were previously released on the October Cherries "Dreamseller" LP but appeared here as new versions. I'm not sure if Benny Siew and Richard "Bib" Khan were still involved but singer/bassist Jay Shotam and new guitarist Chris Vadham were definitely on board. Originally released on Baal Records and re-issued on Guerssen (Guerssen GUESS 019 / 2004).

Tracklist:
- Surprise, Surprise
- These Words I Sing For You
- One Fine Day
- Earth Song
- Broken Chair
- This Is Our Love Song
- Dreamseller
- Take Me Ohio
- Lay Down Your Love
- Love Blooms All Over Me

Xit - Entrance (1974)

A group of Sioux Indians from Albuquerque/New Mexico. This album collects their early work in the sixties as they were known as the Lincoln Street Exit (nevertheless it was released under their then known name Xit). It contains their great acid punk-rocker "Sunny Sunday Dream" as well as some unreleased material. "Half A Man" for instance is a cool late sixties rocker, "Open Doorway" and "She's Upon Her Way" are pretty much in the sunshine-pop mould whilst "Orange Benevolence" and "Forever Or Not At All" are melancholic soft-rock ballads. Only the boring "Soulful Drifter" (their last 45 as Lincoln Street Exit) and the standard bluesy numbers "Mississippi Riverboat Gamblin' Man" and "St. Louis Mama" are a waste of time. All in all much better than their "Drive It" album. This is the re-release from 1996 (Sound Of America Records SOAR-145-CD).

Tracklist:
- Half a man
- Open doorway
- Yellow man of Paris
- She's upon her way
- Orange Benevolence
- Mississippi Riverboat Gamblin' Man
- Sunny Sunday dream
- Soulful drifter
- St. Louis Mama
- Forever or not at all
- She's my everything
